You might think that money is no object for film and television studios. But that couldn't be further from the truth -- trust me, I've worked at them and have a lot of friends who are TV producers... I get to listen to them complain!
Producers are constantly struggling to bring productions in under budget. Unforeseen circumstances like the weather, late or sick actors, taking too long to get the right take, etc. can cause expenses to spiral out of control.
INSIDER SECRET: Producers, set decorators, craft services, and the wardrobe department don't want to spend time and money shopping for items that they can get donated for free. Donated items also give productions a more realistic effect.
Think about it. When was the last time you saw your favorite actor wearing a recognizable name-brand on TV? Wardrobe items can't be recognizable brands, and each character usually has to be in a different outfit in each scene.
